Buffing Copper Sheets

Before you start any polishing and or buffing operation you should be aware of a few things. Place the item in a plastic bag or cover it with plastic wrap. Add enough flour to make a paste. Soap and water or solvents remove dirt grease and oil.

Apply polishing compound sparingly to the face of a revolving buffing wheel. Dry the piece with a soft cloth or towel. Reichert does a 75 25 ratio with three times as much lemon to salt. All parts must be free of dirt grease oil paint rust and plating of any type.

Stir for a minute until the salt dissolves. If copper is heavily tarnished boil the article in a pot of water with 1 tablespoon salt and 1 cup white vinegar for several hours. Give it a bit of buffing as you spread it. Squeeze the juice of the lemon in a bowl and then sprinkle the salt into the juice.

Salt vinegar and flour. This is a useful polish to use on small un lacquered pieces of copper or brass. Repeat application of compound as needed during the buffing and polishing operations. The more you buff the shinier the finish.

Mix these three ingredients to form a paste and spread it thickly onto your copper with a soft cloth. Dissolve 1 teaspoon salt in 1 cup white vinegar. Start with the coarsest applicable compound. See our polishing compound and jewelers rouge chart.

Combine 3 parts vinegar to 1 part baking soda to make this all natural polishing compound. You can also make this compound with flour instead of baking soda although it won t be as effective at removing tough spots. Choose the most applicable buffing compound depending on the work surface material to be polished. Apply to service technician metallurgical engineer concrete laborer and more.

Drop 20 weight oil drops on the copper and use 00000 steel wool to remove the worst scratches etc than degrease the plate and use 2000 grit from the car parts store wet sandpaper with water and go with the grain.
