First you need two 2 x 4 boards with a length equal with the distance between the attic floor and 2 above the rafters. Like many people the attic is a neglected area when it comes to organization. They will be your shelves front supports. This diy guide will show you how to do just that.

Select the roof truss and click the open object edit button. These marks are to the tops of the supports. Building shelving is not a quick job. Attic storage still needs to be organized though. Make sure you shelves are 11 1 2 wide first and cut the supports to match for example you buy 12 wide shelving then you would cut the supports at 12 long. Start choosing the best place for your shelves. For 8 shelves it s currently 169.

The resulting truss will automatically extend out to the eaves. It s a pretty ingenious system for attics that can t have wide shelves because they either use engineered roof trusses or include purlin bracing in the framing which can get in the way of regular shelves.
